The ALMA Lab is officially up and running on-site at NYU Tandon! With the team together in our newly renovated lab space, we are excited to begin building our experimental home and launching our work in quantum optics using superconducting qubits. Here's to new science, new collaborations, and many discoveries ahead!

Congratulations to Valeria for taking home second place for her poster presentation at the 2026 Quantum Device Design Workshop (QDDW) at UCLA! The four-day hands-on workshop trains students in designing and simulating superconducting qubits. Valeria presented her undergraduate research on simulating CNOT gates in multi-fluxonium chains, where she showed how spectator qubits affected gate performance and proposed frequency configurations to maintain high fidelity in longer fluxonium arrays. Excellent work, Val!

Professor Aziza Almanakly was recognized for her PhD thesis among those submitted during the past 12 months! Aziza's thesis, "Quantum Networking using Waveguide Quantum Electrodynamics," was recognized with the Jin-Au Kong Doctoral Thesis Award as this year's outstanding PhD thesis in electrical engineering. This body of work advanced waveguide QED, quantum interconnects, modularity, and chirality in microwave systems. Congratulations!

The ALMA Lab for Atoms, Light, and Microwaves officially launches at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. The group will investigate the research directions of microwave quantum optics, superconducting quantum interconnects, and quantum sensing. Valeria Diaz Moreno, a first-year PhD student, has been awarded a prestigious three-year fellowship through the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). This highly competitive award recognizes outstanding graduate students who demonstrate the potential for significant contributions to STEM fields.
